A lot of people ask the question ‘what is a healthy amount of weight to lose every week?’ when to be honest that is one of the last things that you need to worry about. I mean I fully understand that if you want to lose 15lbs then being told that could be achieved in 8 weeks is amazing, but sometimes it frankly doesn’t happen that way. You could be eating right, missing those doughnuts in the office/home, staying late at the gym/home gym for an extra 20 minutes of your favourite exercises and still not lose 2lbs (0.9kg)  a week.

On the other hand, you could work solidly for 15 weeks and then bam, everyone is noticing your progression and telling you how handsome or pretty you look, how healthy you look, and you check the scale to see you only lost 1lb (0.45kg)  last week. It’s all about the tipping point.

This is why a healthy lifestyle is a critical part of your fitness journey and weight loss in general. It is everything all mixed together, you could lose 5lbs (2.2kg) and feel amazing, like a brand-new person though at the beginning you were really hooked on those 15lbs (6.8kg) and now you are wondering why you felt like that.

Numbers are not the main thing to weight loss, it is a contributing factor to your journey.

There are different numbers you should be focusing on, like how many reps you are getting done, how many minutes you ran and so forth. The numbers on a scale will change in time, they will increase as well as decrease and that is normal. As you add muscle you will gain weight as it accounts to more than fat.


This is all about the lifestyle change that is occurring in your life, a lot of people walk into this thinking that they just need to lose 10lbs (4.5kg) and they will be happy, and it frankly isn’t the case. The simple fact is that this is MEANT to take a LONG time, because you are changing a lot of different things, like eating habits, getting into a routine, becoming more energised and focused for the day.

So next time you approach a personal trainer for some help, try and think of more reasons than just  ‘I want to lose 15lbs (6.8kg)’ because you will find out when you stick it out for long enough, that the numbers will be the last thing you are really focusing on.
